Main Season 2020/2021
Afro Contemporary & Street Fusion
An energetic class in contemporary Afro dance where movements from modern dance based on traditional West African dance movements are mixed with West African street dance.
This type of dance expresses the prevailing dance scene in many places in West Africa where the old traditions of dancing to live djembe drums and special rhythms are being disrupted and new styles are emerging in the streets and being danced to African popular music (Namougnie fare, afrobeat, afrohouse, ndombolo, kuduro etc.).
This class is for anyone who would like to try this happy and powerful form of dance - beginners as well as experienced dancers.
You'll get sweaty and get a big and smile on your face!
The class consists of a nice warm-up, basic movements and technique in diagonal across the floor as well as a choreography to a specific track. The choreographies vary between traditional, contemporary and street dance.
The instructor is dancer and choreographer Alkhaly Camara who grew up in Guinea Conakry's famous street dance culture and has a professional background in traditional West African dance as well as in modern dance theater.
